Recordings of radio transmissions from border station XERA, Villa AcunĖƒa, Mexico, 1938-1939. Included are performances by the Carter Family (A.P., Sara, Maybelle, Janette, Helen, June, and Anita), of Maces Springs, Va., Anglo-American early country performers; and J.E. Mainer, of Concord, N.C., Anglo-American early country musician. Transcriptions feature A.P., Sara, Maybelle, Janette, Helen (12 years old), June (10 years old), and Anita (6 years old) Carter, performing old-time, early country, and gospel songs, accompanied by guitar and autoharp; and of 1960, 1965, and 1969 interviews with J.E. Mainer and the Carter Family.
